My son has decided he is going to try out for the Cross Country team this fall. I am not sure where his love of running came from, as both myself and his dad are not runners. I wish I was, but I honestly am just not that into it. Regardless, I am proud of Tate. It is not only a great way for him to improve his lung capacity and overall physical health, it is a great way to make friends–his middle school’s team is known as a great group of kids.
As parents, we are doing everything to encourage him in postive ways. We want him to strive to do his best in whatever he chooses and of course we want him to make the team, but more than anything, we want him to know that NO MATTER WHAT the outcome is, we love him and we are proud of him.
Tate loves cherries and he believes, thanks to his coach (not his mom who has said the same thing for years) that a smoothie made with Greek yogurt is a great way to refuel after a workout. So a smoothie it is and this Cherry Pie variety is one of his most requested versions. Sweet cherries, creamy yogurt, and milk make the perfect smoothie. Add in a crumbled Nature Valley Oats and Honey Bar to mimic the pie crust, this smoothie is complete. All you need is a straw.
- ½ cup pitted dark cherries (frozen or fresh)
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- ½ cup milk (any variety)
- 1-2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon flax seed
- 1 tablespoon Nature Valley Honey and Oats Bar, crumbled.
- Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and sprinkle the bar over the smoothie. Serve.
I want Tate to believe that he can #BeGreatOutThere running. Each practice run is not critical. But when we remember to praise him before a practice run, we see a marked improvement in his stamina and time. The bottom line is people thrive on encouragement and love. Tate believes in himself more because we believe in him.
What if we all took the time to encouarage each other in small moments? What if we rememebered to tell our spouse how proud we are of their accomplishment at work? What if we let people know we believe in them and care for them? Wouldn’t the world be a better place if encouarging stories and words of praise filled our social media streams, instaed of criticism and negativity? I would love that! And Nature Valley would love to see that as well! In fact, Nature Valley has started a #BeGreatOutThere Campaign. Give someone a little support by telling them you believe they can #BeGreatOutThere. Simple words but a powerful message.
Remeber that. Remember that your words have power. Join Nature Valley and use your words in an encouarging way by telling someone to #BeGreatOutThere, just like done in this video–-get your tissues ready!!
