I have a love/hate relationship with Labor Day.
I hate it because it means summer is coming to end along with my family boat outings and afternoons splashing in the pool.
I love it because it means an end (hopefully) to the Georgia heat and we are entering my favorite season, fall, which features apples, pumpkins, crisp air and football. Wow, I guess I really LOVE Labor Day more than hate it!
Another reason to get pumped for Labor Day?
The food of course!
My family, along with many other American families, will be celebrating this day with a classic American picnic.
Disclaimer: For those of you who are following me on#healthifythefry, you may be thinking that my menu choices are pretty indulgent. And guess what? THEY ARE! However, as I have stated, there is a time and a place to indulge. Holidays–I go full out! (Now I am still eating REAL FOOD made with quality ingredients! Hence, no guilt!) Plus, I have one crazy meal and fill the rest of the day with fresh produce and whole grains.
So Back to My Indulgent Menu
There is nothing like firing up the grill, especially for this burger. Well, as long as the weather cooperates!!
And in case burgers don’t float your boat, why not throw some chicken on the grill that is over the top with flavor due to jerk seasoning and pineapple.
Or keep it really simple, and grab some Applegate hot dogs (chicken, turkey, or beef) and throw them on the grill.
We are going to round out our meal with my BLT Pasta Salad.
And to finish our feast, I want a dessert that features summer produce. These Blueberry Pie Bars are perfect for showcasing summer’s sweet berries.
And if that was not enough inspiration for you, here are some more recipes that would be perfect for your cook-out from some of my favorite fellow food bloggers.
You can’t get any more American than fried chicken and sweet tea!
This corn salad from Food Faith and Fitness is a perfect choice to feature fresh summer corn.
Doesn’t this dessert look amazing? Perfect for the adults at the party.
And to wash it all down, this Strawberry-Pineapple “Sans”gria from Frugal Foodie Mama is perfect for both the adults and the small fries at the party!
Oh okay, say it! Their pictures are better than mine! Yep, but I am still a work in progress and now I have some excellent bloggers to learn from to improve my craft!
Whatever you choose to eat this holiday, I pray that you can celebrate the work in which you have done this past year and enjoy the day with some good food but more importantly, great friends and family.
