5 Reasons to Skip the Gym: I am NOT telling you to give up on exercise, but I am sharing my tips that keep money in my wallet while still keeping my body in shape.
And a special thank you to Better Body and Mom It Forward for sponsoring this post–please remember all opinions are 100% my own.
Think a gym membership is the answer to getting back into shape? THINK AGAIN. You are wasting time and money. I am going to prove to you that you CAN get into the shape you want without the gym membership.
5 Reasons to Skip the Gym
1. Saves Money
More than one person I know spends 100s of dollars a year on gym memberships. Memberships that collect dust. And these are NOT cheap. Some people I know pay more than $200 a month on their gym memberships!!! That is nearly HALF my grocery budget.
I am a busy person. And my guess is so are you. I can not afford to skip a workout, but I typically have to grab the 20 minutes here or there. I DO NOT have time to drive to a gym, workout, and then drive home. And there are even days when I have to do 10 minute intervals 3 times a day–but it works for me. Getting myself to gym would only be a hinderance to working out and I would be more tempted to skip. And with young kids at home, many parents just can’t get time to themselves to get to a gym.
Which brings me to point number 3.
3. Avoid Germs
Before you tell me that your gym has free childcare, think about the cost of that “free” childcare. There are more illnesses spread in those daycares than elementary schools. My friends that have gym memberships joke that they go to the gym, their kids get sick and they have to take a week off. They go back to the gym, and their kids are sick again.
For me, because my body is a bit challenged when it comes to immunity, the absolute last thing I need is to expose myself to germs. Gyms are typically over-crowded and the equipment is not sanitized properly in-between uses. Jumping on an elliptical sounds good for my health, until the person next to me coughs or the person who used the machine before was just getting over the stomach bug.
The whole point of working out is to HELP my body stay strong, not expose myself to potential illnesses.
4. You Don’t Have to Impress ANYONE
I love my cute gym clothes. I love to throw on my bright running shorts and tank and it motivates me to get my body in gear. However, I do NOT love putting on make-up and doing my hair before an intense workout. And I am just being honest when I say–No one wants to see that!
When I work out at home, I don’t have to worry about that. I also don’t have to worry if I work out in my polka dot PJS or if I will be judged by someone else based on my physical appearance. I know I shouldn’t let that bother me, but be honest–you have worried at one point or another about your love handles, your extra 10 pounds, or maybe even the fact that people may think you are too skinny.
At home, there is no one to impress, no one to stare at you, no reason to feel self-conscious about using the 3 pound weights, while everyone else is using 10 pounds–I am right there with you on the 3 pound weights! You can take things at your own pace and not worry if you shed a tear or two over a set of burpees.
Did you know you can do pretty awesome and intense work outs right at home? That you can work on strength training, balance, agility, cardio and core all at home? That you can work out in ANY room in your house? Did you know it is also possible to have a complete home gym that is small enough to store in your closet or under your bed?
Well YOU CAN!!!
For less than the cost of one month at a gym, you can purchase a great home gym that will help YOU reach your fitness goals.
How is this possible?
MOTR is way MOre Than a Roller. It uses the value a foam roller with the challenge of three levels of resistance all which provides you with a challenging and diverse workout, right in the comfort of your own home.
MOTR’s innovative design allows you to work out in eight different body positions, and quickly switch resistance while targeting fitness areas including cardio, balance, functional movement, mind-body coordination, agility, and strength training. It truly is a wonder piece of equipment.
In fact after using it the first time, I was SORE–and that was just the beginners workout provided on the DVD. You guys–very few workouts give cause my muscles to be sore the next day. But MOTR did.
But what I truly love is how small and compact it is. All the components of MOTR are stored within the core of the roller itself. I can pull it out anytime and stash it away with ease.
