In a mixing bowl, mix together cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon zest, egg, vanilla, and lemon juice until the mixture is creamy.
Roll out the puff pastry on parchment paper lightly until smooth and place it on a lined baking sheet.
Spread the cream cheese filling down the center of the puff pastry.
Cut ½ inch diagonal strips up each side of the dough.
Fold the pieces over the filling, alternating sides to resemble a braided pattern and tuck any excess dough under the ends.
Mix together an egg with a tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Then use the egg wash to brush the puff pastry.
Bake until golden brown and let cool.
Prepare a glaze by mixing together powdered sugar with fresh lemon juice until smooth.
Drizzle the lemon glaze over the pastry once it has cooled.
