Meal Plan Tips

These tips are designed to help you cut down on food prep and food waste, by using up leftovers.

  • The meatloaf and Zuppa Toscana both call for only ยฝ pound Italian Sausage. Purchase 1 pound (or make 1 full pound of homemade Italian sausage, to use in both recipes.)
  • Use red potatoes for sides for both meatloaf and chicken legs and go ahead and use them in place of Yukon gold potatoes for the Zuppa Toscana to keep groceries to a minimum.
  • No recipe for grilled cheese. Just butter bread, layer on your favorite cheese slices, toast up over medium heat, and enjoy with the soup. Serve leftovers for lunch during the week.
  • Make extra Instant Pot cilantro lime rice on Tuesday and serve leftovers with the baked salmon.
  • No Instant Pot?
    • For the Zuppa Toscana: Saute bacon, sausage, and aromatics as directed in a large soup pan. Instead of pressure cooking, simmer, covered on the stove for 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Add in cream as directed.
    • For the Cilantro Lime Rice: Prepare your rice on the stove using the package directions. Once cooked, add minced cilantro, salt, lime zest, and lime juice.
  • Leftover bacon from soup? Put it to use in turkey wraps for lunch and/or egg bites. And it is fine if you opt to omit it from the Zuppa Toscana as well.

∗ How to Use Meal Plans∗

Each meal plan includes a printable guide complete with a shopping list and tips to cut back on prep and minimize food waste. I also base each meal plan based on seasonal produce.

Keep in mind the following tips when using these meal plans.

  • Print the meal plan to hang on your fridge and print each recipe to make your grocery list and prepare dinner! You can hit the name of each recipe on the meal plan and it will take you directly to that recipe!
  • Right-click each link and hit open in a new tab so you have all the recipes open at once. Hit the jump to recipe and print off recipes. There is a check box to check off ingredients you already have. This will make shopping a bit easier.
  • Be sure review meal plan for time-saving tips and key grocery lists. Keep in mind I only create the grocery lists based on dinner and assuming your spice cabinet is stocked with common spices.
