Peanut Butter Dog Cookies are the perfect wholesome, homemade treat for your pup. Made with just oats, banana, peanut butter, and egg, these simple dog treats come together in minutes and are loved by dogs of all shapes and sizes.
If your dog is part of the family (and mine absolutely is), you will love spoiling them with these dog cookies and my dog birthday cake. Both use pantry staples and come together with minimal effort.

Key Tips to Know Before Starting
Before you grab a bowl, here are a few small details that make these treats turn out just right for your four-legged friend.
- Always check with your veterinarian before introducing new foods, especially if your dog has allergies or health concerns.
- Choose natural peanut butter. Make sure it does not contain xylitol which is toxic to dogs. I prefer using natural peanut butter without added sugar or oils, but it is always best to read the label.
- Use ripe banana. A soft, spotty banana mashes easily into the other ingredients.
- Cool completely before storing in the fridge. Trapped steam can make the dog cookies quickly grow mold. Once cooled, store in the refrigerator where they will last up to a week.
How to Make Homemade Dog Cookies
Mix, scoop, bake! It is so easy to make these peanut butter dog cookies!
Step One: Prepare Batter
In a medium bowl, whisk the egg. Add in the banana and peanut butter and mash together until evenly incorporated. Add the oats and mix until combined. The mixture will be thick and slightly sticky, like my banana breakfast cookies.

Step Two: Scoop
Scoop 1 tablespoon batter out onto baking sheet, lined with silicone mat or parchment paper. Flatten slightly with a fork, so that they will bake evenly.

Step Three: Bake
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the treats are set and lightly golden on the bottom.
Let the cookies cool completely and then let your pup enjoy!

Storage Tip
Once cooled fully, store the dog cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. If your kitchen runs warm, refrigeration is the safer option.
You can also freeze the treats in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
Homemade dog treats are such a small thing, but they feel special. And when your dog looks at you like you just handed them the greatest gift on earth, it makes the 15 minutes in the kitchen completely worth it.

Cookies sound great, but how much peanutbutter and how much oats?
Hi Patricia! The recipe card states 1 cup oats and 3 tablespoons peanut butter 🙂 I hope your pups enjoy!
Our babies LOVE these! I have even substituted with diced pears, or apples and they are just as great!
I love to hear that Maché! Thank you so much for sharing!
Do these come out soft or more on the hard side? I’m looking for a natural treat I can hide my dogs medicine in!!!! Thanks!
Hi Jaime! These are softer--making them PERFECT to sneak in some meds 🙂 Hope you dog enjoys!
Hi!!! This sounds amazing. i am making for my furry baby. Do I have to freeze them or can I just put them in a jar?
Thanks
Hi there! You can keep these in a sealed jar for up to 5 days.
We have 2 small dogs and we freeze a part of the batch. When the refrigerator batch become depleted we take out the frozen one. So freezing the left overs seems to work out ok. 🙂
My dogs loved this recipe! Definitely would recommend.
YAY! So glad to hear Rachael!
What type of oats do you use?
Regular or quick cook oats will both work 🙂
I made these because I was invited to a dog's birthday party and didn't have time to run to the store. I'm so glad I made them...my dog loves them and hopefully the pup we gifted them to will too!
It is so wonderful to have a treat that is healthy and safe for my dog to eat....honestly, I tried one too because they are similar to some of the healthy human treats I've made! Perfect for a celebration but also perfect to bring on a hike for a pick me up.
Thanks for sharing!
I am so glad you and the dogs enjoyed Linda! My kids love to snack on them as well.
