Peanut Butter Dog Treats are the perfect, wholesome homemade treat for your dog! Made with only four ingredients, these dog cookies are simple to make and loved by canines of all shapes and sizes.
My entire family has a soft spot for our Boston Terrier, Bailey.
From extra long snuggles to daily walks, to a cushy dog bed, to homemade dog treats--this is one puppy that lives a good life.
Our dog has always had a bit of a sensitive stomach, as many dogs (and humans) do. She is on a gluten-free, corn-free, dairy-free diet--which may sound horrible, but trust me, Bailey does not seem to be suffering.
Especially given that we make Homemade Dog Treats, or as my kids call them Dog Cookies, on a regular basis.
Ingredients for Homemade Dog Treats
These simple dog treats are made with just oats, banana, peanut butter, and egg--which are ingredients that are known to not only be safe for dogs to consume but actually good for them as well.
Plus these staple ingredients are ones we always have on hand and these peanut butter dog treats come together in minutes. So no excuse NOT to spoil our dog with homemade treats.
How to Make Homemade Dog Treats
- Mash the banana with the egg and peanut butter.
- Mix in the oats.
- Scoop 1 tablespoon batter out onto baking sheet, lined with silmat or parchment paper.
- Flatten slightly with a fork, like traditional peanut butter cookies.
- Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
- Let cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store dog cookies in an airtight container for 5 days, or in the fridge for 7 days.
I would love to hear how you spoil your dog with these Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Cookies! And I won't judge if you sneak one for yourself!

Amazing recipe I made no alterations my jack russel, yorkie and Labrador x Chau loved them! I had no issues when making it and when definitely recommend this easy to follow recipe for an amateur baking such as myself ❤️

I upped the oats to 1 1/4 C and added 1/4C blueberries and baked 15 minutes for the win!

The Boss and Rosie love the dog cookies!!! I made a few modifications because they like crunchy treats and my dough was wet. I tripled the recipe, added a cup of ground oats (ground oats in food processor until fine like flour), and after cooking for 10 minutes at 350F I turned oven to 285F and cooked for another 30 minutes.

Fabulous! I love that your sweet dogs enjoyed! Thanks for sharing!

What kind of oats do you use? Thank you
Kristen Chidsey
Either quick cooking or regular oats work for this recipe.

I doctored the recipe a bit too. My boy can't have eggs so I used oatmeal, ground oatmeal (as someone else suggested) peanut butter, bananas, apple sauce, and a small bit of oil. I baked them much longer to get them crispy and they're great. My dog is allergic to almost everything so it's great to find a healthy, inexpensive alternative treat for him. I did 4x what the recipe called for. I will freeze them up. Great simple dog cookie.

Awesome, going to make for our miniature Pinscher/Pug's 16th Birthday.
Kristen Chidsey
Happy Birthday to your fur baby!

made these. They took 10 min to make, are super simple, but only make 12 and they are soft-> good for dogs with bad or missing teeth. But I prefer crunchier treats for my dogs. These are certainly nutritious. It would be very simple to double the recipe.

I baked for 15 minutes and the outside was crunchy after cooling
Hammy
Hi, I would love to make this recipe. But, we are having some oven problems so can these be cooked in the microwave? If so how long?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Hammy! I am sorry for your oven issues. I have no experience baking these in the microwave. I would suggest omitting the eggs and making them a no-bake treat for your dog.
Elliot
There is really no reason to cook these at all. I've fed every dog I've owned (9) raw food only. They all lived past their breed's predicted life span (even I'm shocked by that fact). A raw egg isn't going to hurt fido, in fact, it's better for him. Baking them might make them easier to handle or look cuter to us humans but that's all.

Can I substitute unsweetened applesauce for the banana?
Kristen Chidsey
I would start with 1/4 cup of applesauce and add more as needed. I hope your pups enjoy.

This is an awesome healthy recipe for my dog Jack. Thanks! I like to make things in larger quantities. Can these be frozen? If so, how long will they last? I think they will make really good Christmas gifts too.
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Tonya! So glad Jack likes them! These can be frozen for up to 3 months 🙂

I have been making this recipe for over a year now and IT IS STILL A HIT! My babies have definitely gained weight because I make the recipe times 4 and we give them way too many but they just love them SO much and how can you deny their sweet little faces!!!!! Jusy fyi, a ton of other factors play into their weight; for example, Maxi has Addison's disease so he is always hungry due to taking steroids every day; Gumbo has allergies so there are not many treats we CAN give him for a long period of time; and we started giving them wet food because they have gotten older.
As long as you portion correctly per your Babies' weight and do not spoil the crap out of your Babies like we do, they won't gain weight solely due to this treat.
Sissy and Braxi gave this recipe a thumbs up ALSO!! (:
I have even snacked on many (;

Excellent Results and I added a little Full Spectrum Hemp oil for my old retriever.
Thanks for the help!

I made these today for my fur-baby and she absolutely loves them! Great recipe!

I love hearing that!

Can these cookies be rolled out and used with cookie cutters how long will the new cook time be do you think?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Maria, you may need to add in a bit more oats to the mixture for the cookies to be rolled out and hold their shape, I have not experimented with this myself, but others have told me they have done it with success and same baking time.

What kind of consistency does the finished treat have? Is it a bit on the soft chewy side? My senior rescue has some teeth issues and has a hard time chewing harder foods.
Kristen Chidsey
These are fairly soft and should be quite easy to chew.
Tara
Super easy recipe! My dog loves it. Thank you!
Kristen Chidsey
Glad to hear your pup enjoys 🙂
Ishita
What a great (yet easy to execute) recipe. These made for really good training treats. I am already on my second batch. My 3 month old golden retriever puppy thanks you, as do I!
Kristen Chidsey
I love hearing this Ishita! I am so glad your pup (and you enjoy!)
