Peanut Butter Dog Treats are the perfect, wholesome homemade treat for your dog! Made with only four ingredients, these dog cookies are simple to make and loved by canines of all shapes and sizes.
My entire family has a soft spot for our Boston Terrier, Bailey.
From extra long snuggles to daily walks, to a cushy dog bed, to homemade dog treats--this is one puppy that lives a good life.
Our dog has always had a bit of a sensitive stomach, as many dogs (and humans) do. She is on a gluten-free, corn-free, dairy-free diet--which may sound horrible, but trust me, Bailey does not seem to be suffering.
Especially given that we make Homemade Dog Treats, or as my kids call them Dog Cookies, on a regular basis.
Ingredients for Homemade Dog Treats
These simple dog treats are made with just oats, banana, peanut butter, and egg--which are ingredients that are known to not only be safe for dogs to consume but actually good for them as well.
Plus these staple ingredients are ones we always have on hand and these peanut butter dog treats come together in minutes. So no excuse NOT to spoil our dog with homemade treats.
How to Make Homemade Dog Treats
- Mash the banana with the egg and peanut butter.
- Mix in the oats.
- Scoop 1 tablespoon batter out onto baking sheet, lined with silmat or parchment paper.
- Flatten slightly with a fork, like traditional peanut butter cookies.
- Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
- Let cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store dog cookies in an airtight container for 5 days, or in the fridge for 7 days.
I would love to hear how you spoil your dog with these Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Cookies! And I won't judge if you sneak one for yourself!

My dog loves these cookies. He is quite picky! He waits by the oven why they cook. I have made these over and over sometimes I leave out the banana altogether. They are neighborhood favorite❤️
Kristen Chidsey
I love hearing this Mary! So sweet! Give your pup some love from our family!
Julia
All 4 of my rescue Chihuahuas love this treat! Even though some of my elderly dogs don’t have many teeth left, these “cookies” are soft enough for them to eat. (I do break it up into little pieces for my oldest, toothless dog.). I love having a simple, healthy recipe for my fur-babies. Thank you!
Kristen Chidsey
Aw, you have some lucky pups! So glad they enjoyed this treat.
Alan
Made a batch today for our just turned 4 month old Great Pyrenees / Australian Shepard puppy.
She just loves them and they were so easy to make!!
My wife is going to bring some into her friend at work for her Labrador Retriever puppy!
Thank you for this easy recipe with all regular household ingredients!!
...
Is there an ingredient that I could replace the egg with? My dog is allergic to eggs, but this recipe looks so good!
Kristen Chidsey
Absolutely! Use 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons of water and let sit for minutes. That is for one egg. I have a list of baking substitutions that you can keep on hand for other needs as well 🙂 I hope your pup enjoys!
Linda
Can I omit banana altogether?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Linda, I would add in applesauce to keep the cookies together--or extra peanut butter.
Molly
Could I add very ripe bananas that I've frozen? I have some I was going to use for banana bread.
Kristen Chidsey
Yes Molly, I do this all the time! Just defrost in microwave 🙂
Joan
Would like to know if dog oatmeal treats can be frozen? Thank you
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Joan! These can be frozen--in fact, I have some in there for my puppy 🙂 They last 3 months frozen. Just thaw before giving to the dog.
Lorraine
Just made these and my dog loves them...... Yay. Thank you so much will definitely be a staple in my house now.
Kristen Chidsey
Awe, so happy your pup enjoys Lorraine!
Becca Bowman
Our dogs absolutely live these treats! I am going to make some changes on next batch. Maybe add some fine chopped apples....but have not yet decided. There are so many choices!!
Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas!!

We have a rescue dog that has polyps associated with intermittent rectal bleeding and loose stools. This treat is not only healthy, easy to make, and tasty for dogs, it seems to very much agree with a healthy bowel regimen for him. You can make your cherished pups a healthy organic treat in less than 30 min.! On a side note: sometimes the husband may snitch a bit of one too. 🙂
Kristen Chidsey
I am so glad your dog enjoys Aileen!
Niccole
Super easy to make. Made this on the fly, so didn't have bananas, so blended up some blackberries. But this recipe could use any fruit really. Has a strong peanut butter after taste and a bit dry from the oats, but I'm sure my dog will love them!
Deborah N Truby
I added chopped (cooked) bacon. Keep in fridge. She loves them!
Kristen Chidsey
I am so glad your pup enjoyed Deborah! Thanks for sharing the idea of adding bacon.
Kaylee
If I refrigerate the dog treats will they last longer than 5 days?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Kaylee. These will will freeze for 3 months, and keep in fridge for 7, maybe 8 days. I hope you pups are enjoying.
🐩
After there done can I give it to the pup directly or does it have to refrigerate? and if it does how long will it take ?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi There! I would let them cool for at least 10 minutes so the pup does not burn it's mouth. I hope your puppies enjoy!
Tracy Marsh
My dog's don't like bananas can i use unsweetened applesauce instead of bananas
Kristen Chidsey
Absolutely
Patricia
Cookies sound great, but how much peanutbutter and how much oats?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Patricia! The recipe card states 1 cup oats and 3 tablespoons peanut butter 🙂 I hope your pups enjoy!
Maché
Our babies LOVE these! I have even substituted with diced pears, or apples and they are just as great!
Kristen Chidsey
I love to hear that Maché! Thank you so much for sharing!
Jaime Bradley
Do these come out soft or more on the hard side? I’m looking for a natural treat I can hide my dogs medicine in!!!! Thanks!
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Jaime! These are softer--making them PERFECT to sneak in some meds 🙂 Hope you dog enjoys!
MJ
Hi!!! This sounds amazing. i am making for my furry baby. Do I have to freeze them or can I just put them in a jar?
Thanks
Kristen Chidsey
Hi there! You can keep these in a sealed jar for up to 5 days.
Aileen
We have 2 small dogs and we freeze a part of the batch. When the refrigerator batch become depleted we take out the frozen one. So freezing the left overs seems to work out ok. 🙂
Rachael
My dogs loved this recipe! Definitely would recommend.
Kristen Chidsey
YAY! So glad to hear Rachael!
