Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Sushi is the most delicious play on sushi around! Bananas are coated in peanut butter and dipped into a crunchy coating for a fun kid-friendly dessert "Sushi."

For the record, Sushi is not something I enjoy. Unless we are talking about Dessert "Sushi"--that is a different story!

This super easy recipe is a play on sushi made with bananas, peanut butter, and rice cereal for one seriously easy treat that kids will love.

Key Ingredients

  • Bananas: It is important to use bananas that are just ripe or slightly under-ripe for banana sushi, so the banana is firm enough to roll in the peanut butter without falling apart.
  • Nut Butter: This is the glue that holds this little snack together. Use peanut butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter.
  • Rice Cereal: This crispy rice cereal acts as the rice in this fruit sushi recipe.
  • Toppings: I typically default to chopped nuts and mini chocolate chips to add to the sushi coating, but feel free to get creative. Roll in crushed pistachios, almonds, or crushed-up candies like M&Ms or toffee bars. The options for banana sushi are endless.

How to Make Banana Sushi

  • In a shallow dish, heat nut butter for 30 seconds to become easier to spread.
  • In another shallow dish combine cereal with toppings of your choice.
  • Dip each banana into the peanut and coat it fully, using a spoon if necessary to spread peanut butter over the banana.
  • Coat the banana with the cereal mixture.
  • Slice and serve.

  1. Learn to love sushi: next time you are in a sushi place ask for a hand roll with crunchy shrimp and crab with soy paper instead of nori. A Japanese sushi chef introduced me to soy paper, explaining that it was developed because many Japanese people are not that fond of seaweed.
    Enjoy!

    1. I will have to try the soy paper. I am allergic to seaweed, so this is a great thing to know 🙂 Thanks for sharing Paul.

Ahh I love sushi, but I love this, too!! It makes the perfect dessert after a sushi night or a fun "sushi" for kids who want to be like the grownups, but aren't quite ready for fish!
