How to Make Christmas Deviled Eggs

The following tips are provided to help you achieve perfect results. You will find the ingredient quantities and detailed instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Step One: Prepare Eggs. Hands down, I prefer using my Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs, as it is the BEST way to hard boil eggs. However, if you don't have a pressure cooker, you can prepare the hard-boiled eggs on the stovetop.

Step Two: Prepare Deviled Egg Filling. Slice open eggs and scoop out the yolk into a large bowl. Mix the egg yolks with mayonnaise, lemon juice, mustard, horseradish, and seasonings until smooth.

Step Three: Dye Filling. Take out 2 tablespoons of the yellow deviled egg filling and set aside for the stars on the trees. Add 3-4 drops of green food coloring to the remaining egg filling, stirring until a vibrant green.

Step Four: Pipe the Christmas Tree. Place the green filling into a sandwich bag and cut a corner off the side or use a piping bag fitted with a medium circle. Fill the egg white cavity with the green filling. Once the cavity is filled, go back and forth over the egg to create a triangle shape that will become the Christmas tree.

Step Five: Decorate the Christmas Tree. Place the reserved yellow mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip, or plastic bag fitted with a star tip, and add a squeeze on the top of each tree, to create the star. To make ornaments, dollop out little dots of sriracha sauce. And for the base of the tree, use half a kalamata olive as the trunk.

Christmas Deviled Eggs

Transform ordinary deviled eggs into a festive holiday appetizer with a few simple steps. These Christmas Tree Deviled Eggs are perfect for any Christmas Party.  

Ingredients 

  • 12 large eggs
  • cup mayonnaise, or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon prepared horseradish, optional
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3-4 drops natural green food coloring
  • Sriracha sauce
  • 6 kalamata olives, cut in half

Instructions 

  • Prepare hard-boiled eggs by using my method for Instant Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs. Alternatively, place eggs in a single layer in a medium saucepan and cover with water so that there are about 2 inches of water above the eggs. Turn the heat to high and allow the water to come to a rapid boil. Once the water has reached a rapid boil, cover, turn the heat to low, and cook for 1 minute. Remove the saucepan from the heat and leave covered for 14 minutes. After 14 minutes, transfer the eggs to an ice bath to chill completely.
  • Once the eggs have chilled, remove them from the ice bath and carefully peel the eggs under running water. Be sure to remove all eggshells. Gently dry with paper towels.
  • Cut the peeled eggs in half and scoop out the yolk into a large mixing bowl. Set aside the egg whites to fill for the deviled eggs.
  • Using a fork, mash the egg yolks completely until they form a fine powder. Add the mayonnaise, lemon juice, Dijon, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and horseradish if using and mix together until the mixture is well combined. Add more mayonnaise as necessary to get to the creamy consistency you want.
  • Set aside 2 tablespoons of the mixture for stars. Dye the remaining filling green.
  • Place the green filling into a piping bag and pipe the filling into the cavity of the egg and then make a triangle shape on the top of the egg, by moving your piping bag slowly from side to side--to make it look like branches.
  • Dollop each tree with a yellow star, by using a piping bag fitted with a star attachment. Dot sriracha over the tree for ornaments and finish with an olive half for the base of the tree.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

These Christmas Tree Deviled Eggs can be prepared up to decorating the tree, 2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.  When ready to serve, add olive and sriracha.

My family LOVES deviled eggs, and I am an cake decorator since 1962, settling into decorated cookies and Gingerbread contests with all of my grandkids (who are adults and starting to make gingerbread houses with my great-grandkids!) Thus, this will be a perfect addition to Christmas gatherings with family!!! I will have to make dozens of them! You are certainly creative!!! Oooooh...I can't wait to make these!

    I just found your recipe because I couldn't read the Christmas Tree Deviled Eggs recipe printed on my Farmhouse Eggs carton and I was hoping they'd posted the recipe on their website. I was googling "Christmas Tree Deviled Eggs" and your site came up. Imagine my surprise! Your ingredients and theirs are the exact same. I'm so glad because they didn't have the recipe posted on their website and with my eyesight I couldn't read all of it off the carton. Thanks!

I gotta admit, I looked at the picture a fraction of a second before I read the title and did think - wow - what a delicious looking cookie - but, when I saw the title, I was more in awe! These Chrsitmas tree deviled eggs are a first for me! When you mentioned natural food coloring I did think that you used spinach - but glad you kept your family happy and didn't 🙂 These are a masterpiece!
