Easy, Yet Elevated Grilled Peaches

Peach crisp and peach cobbler are universally adored, but to savor a peach at its best, consider grilling it.

Grilling peaches enhances the natural sweetness and flavor of the peach, while slightly caramelizing the flesh of the stone fruit.

Whether enjoyed as an appetizer, tossed into a salad, or served with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, grilled peaches are a memorable treat that come together with minimal effort.

Happy Cooking! xo Kristen

Select Firm, Ripe Peaches

How to Choose Peaches for Grilling

While you want the peaches to be ripe for optimum flavor, it is best they are also rather firm, so that they will be sturdy enough to stand up to the grilling process. Look for peaches that are uniform in color, smell sweet, and are give just slightly when pushed upon.

How to Grill Peaches

The following tips are provided to help you achieve perfect results. You will find the ingredient quantities and detailed instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Remove Pits From the Peaches. Much like cutting an avocado, cut the peach in half by running a knife around the circumference and then twisting it open, revealing the pit inside the peach. Unlike an avocado, the pit of a peach can not be removed by putting your knife in the pit and twisting. This will just cause the pit to break apart. Instead, use a melon baller or cookie scoop to scoop out the pit of the peach.

  1. Brush the Peaches with Oil. In order to prevent the peaches from sticking to the grill, brush the each side of the peach half lightly with olive oil, melted coconut oil, or canola oil.

  1. Grill Peaches. Place the peaches on the preheated grill (or grill plate cut side down.) You just want to grill the peaches until char marks form and the peaches are slightly softened. This is just long enough to enhance the natural sweetness of the peach and add a bit of smokey flavor. If you grill the peaches longer, they can quickly turn to mush.

  • With Cinnamon Sugar: Before grilling the peaches, sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar to add a warm, sweet flavor to the peaches.
  • On Crostini: Top toasted crostini with goat cheese, sliced grilled peaches, and a drizzle of honey.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium Freestone peaches, firm, yet ripe
  • melted coconut oil or olive oil , for brushing

Instructions

  • Brush the grill grates with a bit of oil and then preheat the grill or grill pan to medium heat.
  • Cut 4 medium Freestone peaches in half and remove the pit from the peaches using a melon baller or a small scoop. Lightly brush the cut side of the peaches with additional oil.
  • Place the peaches on the grill, cut-side down for 4-5 minutes, until char marks form, and the peach begins to soften.
  • Remove the peaches from the grill and serve warm as desired.

Notes

Peaches: Select a firm, yet ripe freestone peach. This will allow the peach to be sturdy enough to stand up to the grilling process but still have optimum flavor. A freestone peach can be an Eastern, Southern, or Californian variety of peaches.
Leftovers: Grilled Peaches are best served warm. However, leftover peaches can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Add diced leftover grilled peaches to oatmeal or yogurt.
Grilled Peaches with Cinnamon Sugar: Before grilling the peaches, sprinkle them with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar mixed with ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon to add a warm, sweet flavor to the peaches.
