This Vegetable Dill Dip is the kind of recipe you want to keep on hand if you want to watch raw vegetables disappear faster than the sugary snacks in the pantry. Made with sour cream, mayonnaise, and a simple blend of dried spices, this flavorful creamy dip takes just minutes to make and puts store-bought veggie dips to shame!

My mom used to keep this dill dip on hand to entice her four children to eat more vegetables and let me tell you, it ALWAYS did the trick. Now, I make it for my own two children, who happily dip their veggies (and even baked fish sticks) into this instead of creamy ranch dressing, which is really saying something.

Kristen's Keys for Dill Dip (Don't Skip!)

This recipe is incredibly simple, but these small tips make the flavor and texture so much better.

  • Let the dip chill for at least 1 hour before serving if possible. The dried herbs need time to soften and flavor the dip fully.
  • Use full-fat or reduced-fat sour cream and mayo for the creamiest texture. Fat-free versions tend to get watery and can have an off-putting taste.
  • Use seasoned salt over kosher salt. It adds layers of savory flavor from spices and aromatics that regular salt simply can't bring to the table. I keep a homemade seasoned salt blend in my pantry at all times because it gives simple recipes an instant flavor boost with almost no extra effort.
  • Stir well before serving if the dip has been refrigerated overnight. The ingredients naturally settle a bit.

Happy Cooking! xo Kristen

5-Star Reader Review

This dill dip is absolutely delish! I've made it several times along with your onion dip. I'm throwing a birthday party for my mother in law's 99th birthday this weekend and I know everyone is going to ask me where I buy it lol! Love your recipes and will be trying more. -Gary

Notes on Ingredients

Sour Cream, mayonnaise, dried onion flakes, seasoned salt, dried parsley, and dried dill measured out in small dishes to show ingredients in dill dip.
  • Dill Seasoning: My homemade dill seasoning blend gives this dip the best flavor and keeps prep extra fast. It's made with dried dill, parsley, onion flakes, and seasoned salt.
  • Mayonnaise: Regular or reduced-fat mayo gives the richest flavor. Greek yogurt works well if you want a lighter dip. I don't recommend Miracle Whip.
  • Sour Cream: Adds tanginess and balances the herbs beautifully. Full-fat or reduced fat, not fat-free!

How to Make Dill Dip

Measure, mix, chill. Making this dill dip at home is ALMOST as easy as opening a store-bought vegetable dip but tastes infinitely better!

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, and dill seasoning. Stir until smooth and fully combined.
  2. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving for the best flavor. That little bit of patience really pays off here.

How to Serve Dill Dip

While I this dill dip is my go-to vegetable dip, it works for just about anything!

Serve it with:

For easy entertaining, pair this dip with recipes like marinated grilled chicken thighs, old-fashioned homemade baked beans, creamy sour cream cucumber salad, and copycat Ghirardelli brownies. One of my favorite summer spreads!

Variations & Modifications

  • Lighten it up: Swap the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt for a lighter version packed with protein.
  • Make it dairy-free: Ensure your mayo is dairy-free (most are) and use your favorite non-dairy sour cream or plain non-dairy yogurt.
  • Swap dried dill weed for fresh: Use about 3 tablespoons chopped fresh dill in place of the dried dill seasoning.
  • Use prepared dried dill seasoning: Simply combine the mayonnaise and sour cream with ¼ cup of homemade dill seasoning.
  • Turn it into a sauce: Thin it out by adding 1-2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and drizzle over sheet pan salmon and vegetables, baked lemon garlic cod, or grilled chicken.

Storage Notes

  • Refrigerate up to 5 days. Store the dip in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Stir well before serving. A bit of separation (or liquid on top of the dip) is completely normal. No need to drain off that liquid, just give it a good mix before serving.
