Kristen's Tips for a Refreshing Mango Smoothie

It really doesn't get easier much easier than this smoothie recipe. But for a mango smoothie that is super creamy and perfectly sweet, pay attention to the following tips.

  • Use frozen mango for simplicity. While fresh mango shines in pineapple mango salsa and fresh spring rolls, I find that for a Mango Smoothie, frozen mango is the way to go. It speeds up the preparation and give your smoothie a creamy consistency, without the need to add milk, cream, or yogurt.
  • Opt for a ripe banana. The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie. And because fruit is the only sweetener added, a ripe banana is the way to go!
  • Start with juice. Add the orange juice to the blender FIRST. This will ensure the blades work efficiently and don't get stuck on frozen mango or banana.
  • Blend until smooth. Add frozen mango and banana to the smoothie and blend until smooth and creamy, adding more juice to thin as needed.

Kristen's Swap

If you happen to be using fresh mango to make this mango smoothie, opt for frozen chunks of banana to give your smoothie that creamy consistency frozen mango provides.

Customize this Mango Smoothie

While perfectly delicious as written, you can tweak the ingredients to make this Mango smoothie uniquely yours.

  • Up the Mango Flavor. Instead of using orange juice, use mango juice for a pure mango flavor.
  • Make it Creamy. For a creamier texture and in up to ½ cup plain non-dairy or regular yogurt.
  • Make it Tropical. For a more nuanced flavor, use canned coconut milk for half or all of the orange juice.
  • Spice it Up. Add a zing to this smoothie by grating in 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger root before blending.
  • Make it Sweeter. If you would like a sweeter smoothie, be sure to use ripe bananas or add in 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.
