Crispy, crunchy, and tender inside, these low-fat Air Fryer Potatoes come together FAST--and keep the heat out of the kitchen!
From Mashed Potatoes to Instant Pot Baked Potatoes, to Parsley Potatoes, to these Air Fryer Potatoes, potato side dishes are staples for easy meals. They are inexpensive, versatile, and full of nutrients.

Air Fryer vs Oven
Just like my recipe for Oven Baked Fries, this recipe for Air Fryer Potatoes produces crispy, flavorful potatoes without using much oil. Making both of these recipes a healthier way to enjoy a deep-fried guilty pleasure.
The advantages of using an air fryer over an oven are that it is FASTER (no need to preheat anything) and the heat stays out of the kitchen.
But if I am being honest with you, as much as I LOVE my recipe for baked fries, I prefer this air fryer recipe. The air fryer works fast to give these Air Fryer Potatoes an outrageously crispy texture, just as though they had been fried.
What you Need

- Potatoes: This recipe works with Russet, Yukon Gold, or Red Potatoes. If you would like to use sweet potatoes, be sure to check out my recipe for Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes.
- Oil: You will only need a tiny bit of oil for this recipe. Canola oil, olive oil, or avocado oil are all good choices.
- Seasoning: Salt is the only needed seasoning, but I like to add paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder for additional flavor, which is very similar to my Homemade Seasoned Salt Blend.
- Air Fryer: There are so many brands of air fryers on the market and each is vastly different, but all will work well with this recipe.
How to Make Crispy Air Fryer Potatoes
- There is no need to peel the potatoes--the peel is where most of those nutrients live! Just give them a good scrub and dry them well.
- Dice the potatoes into ½-inch to ¾-inch cubes. Be sure the diced potatoes are even in size so that they cook evenly.
- Toss the potatoes with the oil and seasonings.

- Spread out evenly into the air fryer basket OR the trays of the air fryer.

- If using an air fryer with trays, cook for 18-22 minutes. If using an air fryer with a basket, cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees F, remove the basket, and give the potatoes a good shake so that they evenly cook. Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for an additional 10 minutes.

Storing and Reheating
Once your potatoes have cooled, they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5 days or in the freezer for 3 months. They are best reheated in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 3-4 minutes for refrigerated potatoes, and 15 minutes for frozen potatoes, shaking halfway.
Flavor Modifications
Potatoes truly are a blank canvas and can be seasoned in endless ways, or just simply with salt.
- Ranch Flavored Potatoes: Toss potatoes with ½ teaspoon oil and 2 teaspoons Ranch Seasoning.
- Taco Flavored Potatoes: Toss potatoes with ½ teaspoon oil and 2 teaspoons Taco Seasoning.
- Savory Onion Potatoes: Toss potatoes with ½ teaspoon oil and 2 teaspoons Copycat Lipton Onion Soup Mix.
- Cajun Spiced Potatoes: Toss potatoes with ½ teaspoon oil and 2 teaspoons Homemade Cajun Seasoning.
- Low-Sodium/Salt-Free Potatoes: Cut the salt to ¼ teaspoon OR omit completely if on a salt-free diet.
Troubleshooting and Tips
- Modification for Compact Air Fryer: If your air fryer is a smaller model, you will need to either cut this recipe in half or air fry your potatoes in two batches. If you overcrowd the air fryer, the potatoes will not cook evenly.
- Be sure your potatoes are cut into equal-sized cubes. If not, your potatoes will not cook evenly.
- Shake your basket halfway through cooking. This is crucial to ensuring each potato crisps up evenly and achieves a golden exterior. You want to give it a good shake or use a wooden spatula to mix up the potatoes.
Serving Suggestions
Air Fryer Potatoes pair perfectly with any meal from breakfast to lunch to dinner.
- Use as a base for Hashbrown Breakfast Casserole, Instant Pot Breakfast Casserole, or Potato Frittata.
- Serve alongside Homemade Chicken Tenders, Sloppy Joes, or Burgers for a kid-friendly meal.
- Add to breakfast burrito or serve with scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage for a delicious, hearty breakfast.

Air Fryer Potatoes
Ingredients
- 4 cups cubed russet potatoes
- ½ teaspoon canola oil or olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- If your Air Fryer is a model that needs to preheat, preheat to 400 degrees. It should only take about 5 minutes to be ready.
- Scrub potatoes and dry well. Dice into ½ inch to ¾ inch cubes.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the potatoes with the oil and seasonings to coat evenly.
- Spread the cubed potatoes out evenly in the basket or trays of the air fryer. Cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees and remove the basket and give the potatoes a good shake so that they evenly cook. Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- If your Air Fryer uses a tray and not a basket, there is no need to stop the cooking process to shake the potatoes. Instead roast for 18-22 minutes at 400 degrees.

DIVA W
Hi Kristen. I am so eager to try this because I love breakfast potatoes. My question is, could real diced onion be used or is lipton onion soup mix better for air fryer?
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Diva! You can use the dried onions seasoning, and/or you can mix the potatoes with 1 small onion that has been chopped.
Vada Jones
Can you use the diced frozen potatoes. Just wondering.
Kristen Chidsey
Hi Vada! They are a bit smaller in size, but because they are frozen the timing should be about the same. It should work great!
