If you are craving the kind of baked potato you order at a steakhouse, you will love these Air Fryer Baked Potatoes. With seasoned, crispy skin and a fluffy, creamy interior, making baked potatoes in the air fryer is incredibly easy and the results truly rival any restaurant.
Just like you can trust my recipe for Instant Pot Baked Potatoes to deliver consistent results regardless of potato size, you can count on this air fryer version. It guides you through making a baked potato that's tender and creamy on the inside, with one key upgrade: that irresistibly crispy skin.

Kristen's Keys for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Keep these tips in mind to ensure your baked potatoes turn out perfect every time.
- Use russet potatoes. Their high starch and low moisture are what give you that fluffy interior instead of a dense, waxy center.
- Scrub and dry the potatoes well. Scrubbing removes the dirt and drying helps the skin crisp up. And trust me, you will want to eat every last bit of that crispy skin!
- Give the potatoes space. Crowding the basket leads to uneven cooking and softer skins.
- Size matters! Cook time is based on size of potatoes, so be sure to select potatoes similar in size if you are making more than one baked potato in the air fryer.

How To Make Baked Potatoes in the Air Fryer
Think of this section as me guiding you through the process, giving you a few expert tips along the way.
Step One: Prepare Potatoes
Technically, you simply need to wash, dry and poke the potatoes several times with a fork before air-frying, But one of the many appeals of air fryer baked potatoes is the crispy skin. Seasoning that skin with bit of oil and salt, pepper, and garlic increases the flavor and crispy factor ten-fold.
- Give the potatoes a scrub and let dry.
- Combine the oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a shallow dish.
- Poke the dry potatoes several times with a fork and then roll the potatoes in the seasoned olive oil to coat.
Faster option. Brush the potatoes with olive oil or spray with olive oil cooking spray and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Not quite as good, but it does save a dish.

Step Two: Air-Fry Potatoes
Place the seasoned potatoes into the air fryer, ensuring there is a bit of space between each potato to allow the air to circulate. Air fry at 400°F for 20 minutes, flip and continue to air fry for 10-30 minutes, based on the size of your potatoes. You'll know they're done when a knife slides easily into the center with no resistance.
The cook time will vary based on the sizes of your potato. Refer to the cook time chart below.

Step Three: Serve
Top your Air Fryer Baked Potato however you like! Butter, sour cream, chives, green onions, cheddar cheese, baked bacon. The options are endless.

How Long to Cook Baked Potatoes in Air Fryer
The time to bake a potato in the air fryer will vary depending on the size of the potato. Follow the guidelines below as a starting point, but if your potatoes need a longer cooking time simply continue to air-fry in 3-5 minute intervals until they easily piece with a knife.
- Small Potatoes (2-3 inches in diameter/5-7 ounces): Cook for 20 minutes, flip, and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Medium Potatoes (3-4 inches in diameter/8-10 ounces): Cook for 20 minutes, flip, and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes.
- Large Potatoes (4-4½ inches in diameter/11-13 ounces): Cook for 20 minutes, flip, and cook for an additional 20-25 minutes.
- Extra Large Potatoes (5 inches in diameter/15-16 ounces): Cook for 25 minutes, flip, and cook for an additional 20-25 minutes.

Serving Suggestions
We always pair Ribeye Steaks with these Air Fryer Baked Potatoes and a Homemade Caesar Salad, which puts high-end restaurants to shame! However, the options are ENDLESS on how you serve these crispy air-fried baked potatoes. Below are a few options.
- Stuff Them: Top the air fried potatoes with a scoop of leftover Instant Pot Pulled Pork, Sloppy Joes, Taco Meat, or Instant Pot Chili and shredded cheese or a scoop of Easy Homemade Coleslaw for an easy, filling meal.
- Dress The Up: Use these baked potatoes to speed up the process of making Twice Baked Potatoes.
- Repurpose Leftovers: Cube leftover baked potatoes and use them to make a quick breakfast hash, as the base for a Potato Frittata, or add to Chicken Pot Pie.
