Kristen's Key Tips for Turkey Wraps

- Thinly slice everything. From the turkey to the cheese to the tomatoes, be sure to use thin slices of the ingredients, which will make the wraps easier to roll.
- Prevent soggy wraps. Ensure your tomatoes are deseeded and your lettuce is thoroughly dried before assembling the turkey wraps.
- Add a spread. Adding a thin layer of mayonnaise, mustard, or avocado mash to add flavor and form a barrier between the filling and tortilla.

Notes on Ingredients
You will find the full list of ingredients, along with quantities in the recipe card. Below is a quick glance at what you need and tips to help you make the right selection.

- Turkey: While leftover roasted turkey or Instant Pot turkey breast will work, you want to ensure the turkey is thinly sliced, like deli turkey, making your wrap easier to roll.
- Bacon: Crispy baked bacon is optional, but adds a nice crunch and saltiness to the wrap.
- Cheese: Thinly sliced cheddar, Coby, provolone, or Swiss cheese all work equally well.
- Tomatoes: Vine-ripened or Roma tomatoes, that have been thinly sliced and seeds removed.
- Lettuce: Use green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, or iceberg lettuce. For romaine or iceberg lettuce, you will want to cut out the hard center of the lettuce leaves, so that the wraps will roll up evenly.
- Tortillas: Use any burrito-sized tortilla you like--homemade tortillas, flour tortillas, or gluten-free tortillas.
- For the Spread: Avocado plus mayonnaise forms a delicious spread that pairs beautifully with the turkey and bacon.
How to Make Turkey Wraps
The following tips are provided to help you achieve perfect results. You will find the ingredient quantities and detailed instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Make Avocado Mash. Mash the avocado with mayonnaise, lime juice, and a bit of salt until creamy.
- Layer the Turkey Wrap. Evenly spread a thin layer of the avocado mixture over a tortilla, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges. Place a slice of lettuce over the bottom of the tortilla, which will help to prevent the Turkey Wrap from getting soggy. Top the lettuce with sliced turkey, cheese, 1-2 slices of cooked bacon, and sliced, seeded tomatoes.

- Roll Up the Wrap. Tightly roll up the turkey wrap by folding in the sides of the tortilla or wrap and then bringing up the bottom flap and then continuing to roll from the bottom up.

Make Turkey Pinwheels
These turkey wraps also can be served as pinwheels, which are perfect for small children's lunches or to serve as an appetizer at a party.
- Prepare Turkey Wrap as directed and slice the wraps into 1-inch circles.
- Secure each turkey pinwheel with a toothpick, adding a grape tomato on top for color and to keep the circles perfectly intact.

Prep-Ahead Instructions
If prepared correctly, using deseeded tomatoes and layered as written, these turkey wraps can be made up to 3 days in advance. Once assembled, wrap the turkey wraps tightly in plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator until ready to serve or pack for lunch. To pack in a lunch, be sure to include an ice pack as the ingredients in the wraps are perishable.
