Forget ever having to buy coffee creamer again! This 3-Ingredient Coconut Vanilla Coffee Creamer comes together in minutes to create a rich, luxurious, dairy-free coffee creamer.
Whether you use this Homemade Coffee Creamer to make a Homemade Latte, or just to flavor your coffee, this simple dairy-free coffee creamer will save you money and will make drinking your morning cup of coffee that much more enjoyable.

Like many of you, my morning does not go well without a cup of coffee. While I don't like my coffee black, I am not a fan of store-bought creamers for many reasons. They are often loaded with added preservatives, sugar, stabilizers, carrageenan, and even trans fat.
And if you need a dairy-free creamer, your options are limited and they are often pricey!
Skip the store-bought creamer, and with just 3 ingredients and a quick shake, you can quickly make a dairy-free creamer that is rich, velvety, and full of vanilla and coconut flavors with a note of maple in the background. It is the perfect way to indulge without indulging at all.
Notes on Ingredients
Because this homemade coffee creamer is made with only 3 ingredients, you want to choose them wisely for the best results.
- Coconut Milk: Be sure to use canned coconut milk, not coconut cream for this vegan coffee creamer. My favorite is Trader Joe's Coconut Milk, it is thicker than most light brands but does not separate as much as full-fat coconut milk. However, you can use any brand of light coconut milk or full-fat coconut milk you like.
- Maple Syrup: Be sure to use pure maple syrup, not pancake syrup, as the flavor will not be as rich or pure.
- Vanilla Extract: The vanilla extract is optional, but adds a nice warming note to the creamer.
- Optional Additions: Feel free to add up to a teaspoon of ground cinnamon or ½ teaspoon of grated nutmeg for additional flavoring if desired.
How To Prepare & Use Homemade Coffee Creamer
- Combine the coconut milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a jar with a tight-fitting lid or a blender. Shake or blend well until the ingredients are well emulsified.
- Store this homemade creamer in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 14 days.
- Shake well before each use.
not dairy-free?

I used the same TJ coconut milk (not cream) and I can't stop the cream from separating in the fridge into a thick layer of coconut oil and the milk. Any suggestions?
Hi MD. I would suggest blending before refrigerating and then shake vigorously before each use. Let me know if that helps. It is possible the TJ brand has changed a bit and I may need to retest that brand.
Use coconut cream and also honey, honey is an emulsifier and it still will need to be shaken before used but the cream will not be clumpy then blend and refrigerate. That is how I make mine.
YAY!!! Finally I have my delicious cup of coffee back!
I have been using coconut milk in a carton, for years, to “cream up” my coffee… unfortunately, with non-“creamy” results. However, I lived with it as I don’t tolerate dairy milk very well. But, lately, the brand of cartoned coconut milk I’ve been using has developed a weird taste, so I switched to oat milk, but found the smell of it off-putting. Frustration led me to Google where I found your recipe. I followed it, exactly as written and OHHHH MYYYYY GOOODNESSS!! THIS IS DELICIOUS!! It’s actually CREAMY with the PERFECT amount of sweetness! Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me my delicious cup of coffee back!! I am HAPPILY caffeinated once again! 😁
Can I substitute maple syrup with other sweetener?
Yes. The maple syrup adds flavor. However, you can use sugar. It would be best to warm a bit of the coconut milk to dissolve the sugar.
Why does my homemade coconut creamer leave an aftertaste?
Hi Debbie! It may just be the aftertaste of the coconut. However, let me know the brand of maple syrup you used and the brand of coconut milk and I can further troubleshoot.
Hello! Thank you for the recipe. I'm trying to remove as much aluminum from my life as possible in order to be more brain friendly. So no aluminum foil, aluminum free deodorant, no canned goods, etc. Are there any coconut milks you recommend that don't come in a can? Thank you so much in advance.
Hi Lindsay! It is hard to find coconut milk without stabilizers that are not canned. However, Thai Kitchen does sell coconut milk in a carton. You can find it on amazon.
Recently learned that dairy was no longer something I could have, so I tried this receipe as a substitute in my coffee. It was fantastic and definitely won't be missing the morning splash of milk in my coffee because of this. Thanks for the receipe!!
I am so glad you found this Michele and that you enjoyed it! I hope you find many more Dairy-Free Recipes here to enjoy now that you are dairy-free.
With all of the added ingredients from store bought plant/nut based creamers to maintain shelf life, I'm curious to know your thoughts about adding coconut oil to this recipe in hopes of doing the same.
Hi Barbara! Coconut oil itself will not extend the shelf-life. Only preservatives will.
