Recipe Highlights
Ingredients in Homemade Ranch Dressing

- Greek yogurt (or Mayonnaise): You can use plain Greek yogurt or mayonnaise for this recipe. I tend to opt for yogurt to keep this ranch dressing lower in fat and egg-free.
- Sour Cream: Use regular or reduced-fat sour cream, NOT fat-free, as the flavor will not be the same.
- Dried Spices: You can opt to use homemade ranch seasoning, or a combination of dried parsley, dried basil, dried dill, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Buttermilk: Buttermilk gives ranch dressing its signature tanginess. But there is no need to purchase buttermilk just to make ranch dressing. You can simply combine fresh lemon juice with milk to replicate the flavor of buttermilk.
How to Make Homemade Ranch Dressing
It takes less than 5 minutes to whip up this easy ranch dressing recipe. However, I recommend chilling for at least 30 minutes before serving, allowing time for the flavors to meld together.
- If needed, prepare homemade buttermilk by combining lemon juice with milk and letting it sit for a few minutes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise (or yogurt), sour cream, and seasonings until well combined.
- Drizzle the buttermilk into the bowl, whisking constantly until everything is well combined and the right consistency is reached.
- Place the prepared ranch dressing in an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using.

Ways to Serve Ranch Dressing
Whether used to dress a tossed salad or as a dip, this homemade ranch dressing will be a staple in the kitchen. Below are a few of my favorite ways to use ranch dressing.
- As a Salad Dressing: Use to top a simple tossed salad, pair with buffalo chicken salad, or mix with a bit of ranch and use to dress BBQ chicken salad.
- As a Dipping Sauce: Ranch is perfect for dipping raw veggies, baked fries, fish sticks, chicken tenders, chicken bites, or air fryer zucchini fries. The list goes on and on!
- In Place of Sour Cream: Serve potato skins or air fryer potato skins with ranch dressing.
- Tame Down Buffalo Chicken: Serve buffalo chicken casserole, buffalo chicken pizza, and buffalo Chicken Tacos with a drizzle of this homemade ranch dressing.
- With Chicken Wings: You can't serve chicken wings without ranch dressing or bleu cheese dressing. Homemade ranch is perfect alongside Instant Pot chicken wings, air fryer chicken wings, or boneless chicken wings.

Any suggestions on what to sub if I don't have a lemon on hand?
Hi Jamie! Distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar would be good substitutes.
Have you ever tried it with just greek yogurt? I always have that on hand but feel like the rest of my sour cream might go to waste. Thanks!
Hi Heather! I have personally done that many times. Greek yogurt is a staple here too! It may be a bit tangy, but still creamy and delicious.
