This Homemade Seasoned Salt recipe lets you avoid additives and allergens, while elevating the flavor of any savory dish! It's easy to make, customizable, and adds a restaurant-flair to your home-cooked dishes.

When it comes to making flavorful, wholesome meal, I find myself turning to homemade spice blends.
From my famous chili seasoning, to classic taco seasoning, to this simple seasoned salt recipe, spice blends are the easiest (and cheapest) way to amp up the flavor of a dish.
And while you can find just about any seasoning blend, including seasoned salt, at any grocery store, homemade is the way to go! Not only is it a money-saver, but you get to be in charge of what goes into your seasonings--no MSG, cornstarch, or sugar in this seasoning salt blend!
A Few Things to note
- Endless Uses: Seasoned salt works as an all-purpose seasoning in any savory dish. Great for fries, chicken, soups, eggs, and so much more!
- Iodized vs. Kosher Salt: Use iodized salt to replicate the texture of classic seasoned salt and to blend well with the dried spices.
- Low-Sodium Option: For a salt-free version (like Mrs. Dash), omit or reduce the salt while keeping the flavor.
- Fresh Spices: Use spices less than 6 months old for optimal flavor.
- Storage Tip: Keep in a cool, dry place to preserve flavor and freshness.
How to Make Seasoned Salt
Seasoned salt is literally one of the easiest things you can make, but keep in mind you will find the full ingredient amounts and detailed instructions in the recipe card in the recipe card.
- Combine the salt with pepper, dried parsley, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl until everything is well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and store in a dark, cool place (like the spice cabinet or pantry) for up 6 months. It is safe to consume after 6 months, but the seasoning salt will not be as flavorful.

Seasoned Salt Variations
- Spicy: Add 2-3 teaspoons of cayenne pepper for some added kick to the seasoning.
- Smokey: Replace the paprika with smoked paprika.
- Savory Herb: Omit the chili powder and instead use 2-3 teaspoons each of ground rosemary and dried basil.
- Italian: Replace the chili powder with dried oregano.
How to Use Seasoned Salt
Seasoning salt can be used in place of salt in just about any savory dish to help enhance the natural flavors in the recipe. I love using it to season popcorn, French fries, meat, vegetables, and salads. Below are a few of my favorite suggestions for using this recipe for homemade season salt.
- Use seasoned salt to flavor the breading in Baked Chicken Tenders or Homemade Fish Sticks, for an incredible layer of flavor.
- Sprinkle seasoned salt over a whole chicken to make Instant Pot Whole Chicken or Homemade Rotisserie Chicken.
- Use in place of Cajun seasoning in recipes like Instant Pot Sausage and Potatoes and Mahi Mahi for a milder, flavorful result.
- Season a pot roast, pork roast, shrimp, or steak with seasoned salt prior to cooking to add a nice flavor profile to your meat.
- Replace salt with seasoning salt to impart flavor to roasted vegetables, in recipes like Roasted Broccoli or Roasted Brussels Sprouts.
- Give your potatoes more flavor by replacing the salt with homemade seasoned salt in recipes such as Roasted Red Potatoes, Baked Fries, or Air Fryer Potatoes.
- Use the seasoning salt blend to season a breakfast hash or scrambled eggs.
- My recipes for Broccoli Cheese Soup, Homemade Hamburger Helper, and Ham and Bean Soup all call for using seasoned salt, as it adds a layer of dimension to the final dishes.

We make stovetop popcorn a lot and I'm always looking for new seasoning ideas! I'm doing this one next!
This is really a fantastic blend and easy to throw together. A great alternative to store bought. I've gone through so much of it already!
Thanks for sharing Gina! I am glad you are enjoying it!
I just love your gluten free seasoned salt! I have had several requests from family and friends as to what seasonings I have used in several dishes!!! I do not add any salt to my mixture so I can add salt as needed.
Needed some seasoned salt for a recipe I was making (salmon salad) and found this. Only made 1/2 recipe and I’m glad I did. It makes quite a bit especially if you only need a little. I used regular organic paprika and an organic chili powder I had. It looks very different from my normal seasoned salt and was relieved to find that this does not have sugar in the recipe. Don’t feel that sugar is necessary. The salmon salad turned out great! The seasoning was very good for this. Thank you for posting this recipe!
I am so glad you found this recipe Lorna and that you found the flavor to be spot on. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment 🙂
Very tasty. I made this to make a dairy-free version of your cream of chicken soup and I was so pleased with both. Thank you!
So happy to hear you enjoyed JT! Thanks for sharing.
I love this seasoned salt. I put it in my biscuits and gravy and it's perfect!
Doesn't seasoned salt usually have a bit of sugar? Brown? White?
Hi Rachel! Store-bought blends may have a bit of sugar but the advantage of making at home is you can control the ingredients. I don't find the added sugar to be necessary.
